Another Mission Accomplished: Our DFA Passport Experience

Another mission checked off our family’s list this year—we finally renewed our passports! It had been over a decade since we last had them updated, and this time, it was extra special because our youngest applied for his very first passport. Back when we were just a family of three, our first (and last) trip abroad was to Hong Kong. Our eldest was just a year old then. Since that trip, life got busy, and renewing our passports kept getting pushed back—year after year. Booking a passport appointment these days isn’t exactly a walk in the park. Everything has to be done online, and every time I checked the DFA website, the slots in the satellite office near us were always fully booked. Eventually, I gave up trying—until a colleague mentioned DFA San Pablo City in Laguna. It's about an hour and a half (or two, depending on traffic) from our place. Out of curiosity, I checked their schedule and, to my surprise, found several open slots. I didn’t waste a second—I booked o...

The Unfollow: When Social Media Influencers Cross the Line

Early this morning, I made a decision that left me questioning the power of social media influencers. I unfollowed a respected doctor after his post implicitly advocated boycotting lawyers as patients, sowing seeds of distrust in our legal system. As someone who values liberty and life, I was disheartened by the doctor's message. His words, though intended to support colleagues, can be fatal and damaging. Medical professionals should prioritize patients' well-being, regardless of profession. Ironically, his previous post urged followers to "be the change." Where is that change now? I pray that not everyone in the medical profession will discriminate against patients based on their profession. Let's promote empathy, understanding, and inclusivity, rather than hate and discrimination. Words have consequences, especially from influencers. #SocialMediaResponsibility #InclusivityMatters

Embracing Real Change: Beyond Complaints and Criticism

Tired of hearing phrases like "It's better abroad" or "The Philippine system is flawed"? We've all encountered pessimistic remarks about our country. But have we truly attempted to rectify these issues or merely accepted the status quo? Mahatma Gandhi's wisdom resonates deeply: "Be the change you want to see in the world." This phrase inspired me to reflect on my actions and their impact. Before entering the legal profession, I witnessed complaints about unfair treatment, inequality and corruption. I vowed to be different – to embody the change I desired. My motivation wasn't external validation but creating a better future for generations to come. Ironically, many critics perpetuate the very issues they condemn. Consider corruption: instead of bribing, practice genuine gratitude. Say "thank you" instead of offering kickbacks. Catalysts for Change 1. Reject bribery: Say NO, even if others accept it. 2. Verify information...
